Early Years: Founding and Construction

• Established in 1950, Britt David Elementary originated when the Muscogee County Board of Education purchased 18.366 acres from the J. Britt David estate at the southwest corner of Armour and Britt David Roads.

• Construction commenced in 1955, and the school opened on November 5, 1956 with 11 classrooms, an office, clinic, library, teachers’ lounge, and cafeteria. Prior to this, 352 students (grades K–6) attended classes in double sessions at Rosemont School.

Transformation into a Magnet School

• In 1992, the school was transformed into a computer magnet school. This shifted the curriculum to emphasize technology, using computers to teach, remediate, and enrich student learning, while students also learned computer literacy.

• The school draws students from across Muscogee County—there’s no traditional attendance zone; admission is application-based.

Academic Achievements & Recognitions

• Britt David has consistently demonstrated outstanding performance:

  • Georgia Platinum Award for excellence in student achievement and progress (awarded annually since the mid-2000s).

  • Recognized as the Top Elementary School in Georgia by the Department of Education in 1998 and again in 2007.

  • Honored as a National Blue Ribbon School in 1999 and 2004.

• In 2012 and 2018, the school earned additional recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School. The 2018 award classified it as an “Exemplary High Performing School,” marking it among the highest-performing schools in Georgia.

  • Its magnet model integrates Advanced College Preparatory and Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE), providing students with career awareness through project-based learning and career cluster exploration.
