ACADEMICS

Social Studies

Social studies education in Georgia’s elementary schools introduces students to history, geography, civics, economics, and culture through the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE). Beginning with concepts like community, citizenship, and basic map skills, students gradually explore state, national, and world history. Lessons emphasize understanding democratic principles, appreciating cultural diversity, and connecting past events to the present. Through hands-on projects, primary sources, and discussions, students build critical thinking and civic awareness, preparing them to become informed and responsible citizens.

Science

Science education in Georgia’s elementary schools follows the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) and engages students in life, earth, and physical sciences through hands-on exploration and inquiry. Beginning with observation and questioning, students learn about ecosystems, weather, matter, energy, and the scientific method. Instruction emphasizes curiosity, problem-solving, and connecting science to everyday life, often through experiments, models, and technology. By upper elementary, students investigate more complex concepts like force, simple machines, and the solar system, building a strong foundation for middle school science.

The goal of the program is to ensure every student who enters Britt David Magnet Academy Advanced College Preparatory with CTAE Integration experiences a student-centered program that fosters career inspiration, career awareness, career visualization, and career preparation, as vital components of one's educational career. While these components are crucial to the success in carrying out our magnet theme, core curriculur concepts must be mastered too through various ways.

Math

Math education in Georgia’s elementary schools focuses on building strong foundational skills in number sense, operations, fractions, measurement, geometry, and problem-solving. Guided by the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE), instruction emphasizes conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and real-world application. Teachers use hands-on activities, visual models, and technology to help students connect mathematical ideas and develop critical thinking. Early grades focus on fluency with addition and subtraction, while upper elementary prepares students for middle school by strengthening skills in multiplication, division, fractions, and algebraic reasoning.

English Language Arts

English Language Arts (ELA) education in Georgia’s elementary schools is guided by the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) and emphasizes building strong foundations in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language. Students develop phonics and decoding skills in the early grades, then expand into fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension with increasingly complex texts. Writing instruction includes narrative, informational, and opinion pieces, while speaking and listening activities foster communication and collaboration. By upper elementary, students are analyzing literature and informational texts more deeply, strengthening grammar and conventions, and preparing for middle school literacy demands.

Art

Art education in Georgia’s elementary schools encourages creativity, self-expression, and problem-solving while building an understanding of artistic techniques and cultural traditions. Guided by the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) for Visual Arts, students explore drawing, painting, sculpture, and other media while learning the elements of art and principles of design. Lessons also connect art to history, culture, and other subject areas, helping students appreciate diverse perspectives. Through hands-on projects, exhibitions, and reflection, elementary art programs nurture imagination, confidence, and critical thinking skills.

Physical Education

Physical education in Georgia’s elementary schools is designed to build lifelong habits of health, fitness, and teamwork. Guided by the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) for Physical Education, students develop motor skills, coordination, and physical fitness through activities like games, dance, and sports. Lessons emphasize cooperation, sportsmanship, and goal-setting while promoting the importance of daily exercise and healthy choices. By engaging in active play and structured movement, students strengthen both their bodies and social-emotional skills.

Music

Music education in Georgia’s elementary schools is guided by the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) for Music and focuses on developing students’ musical skills, creativity, and appreciation. Children explore rhythm, melody, harmony, and expression through singing, playing instruments, movement, and listening activities. Lessons often connect music to culture and history, helping students understand its role in communities and traditions. Through performances, composition, and collaborative practice, students build confidence, discipline, and a lifelong enjoyment of music.

Innovation Lab

Computer science education in Georgia’s elementary schools introduces students to the basics of digital literacy, problem-solving, and computational thinking. Following the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) for Computer Science, students learn about coding, algorithms, digital citizenship, and how technology connects to everyday life. Hands-on activities with computers, coding apps, and robotics encourage creativity and collaboration while helping students see themselves as creators—not just users—of technology. This early exposure prepares children with critical thinking and digital skills that support success in future learning and careers.
